The Brilliant Corners were without doubt one of the most under-rated groups of their era.1st came to my attention when they supported John Cale and Nico at the Town and Country Club in London in 1985.They were excellent that night and I'd give anything to hear that set all over again.Saw them quite a few times in Reading 87/88 at the Uni and at the Majestic Club.Saw them for the last time in September 1990 at the Venue in New Cross just around the time that 'Hooked' came out. What has been bugging me for years is that at 1 of the Reading Majestic gigs Davey said they were about to do a Wedding Present song and would probably be 'castrated' for doing it.It was a version of Anyone Can Make A Mistake. But they also did a Pastels song and I have no recollection whatsoever of which song it was.Does anyone have any idea what Pastels song they did around this time(87/88) in their live set?

At the Princess Charlotte in Leicester, March-ish '88, I'm fairly sure it was "Something going on", preceded by Davey asking the audience "who likes the Pastels, does anyone like the Pastels?".
Totally agree about the band being underrated. With the benefit of hindsight they probably had the extreme misfortune to be hitting their stride (88-89) just as the Stone Roses came along and changed everybody's expectations about what indie bands could do.

Thanks for that. I had a feeling it was 'Something's Going On'...a good little tune on an early Creation single with what the Pastels called a 'hoover' (?)guitar solo at the end...

Definitely "Something's going on". Remember seeing them playing it somewhere in Reading circa 1988. Don't think it was Majestic mind - what was the name of the club on London Street? It was there. Amelia Fletcher was with them too. Ace gig.

You're right mate- it wasn't the Majestic. Almost as soon as I posted I thought I'm not sure it was there. It was the After Dark club, and I saw them there 3 times during 87/88. It was a tiny venue but saw My Bloody Valentine there as well around the time of 'Isn't Anything'....
